Botox - removing facial wrinkles
Botox (botulinum toxin) is a widely used preparation in aesthetic dermatology. It is a simple, non-surgical method of smoothing deep and unwanted wrinkles:
- between the eyebrows
- transverse forehead wrinkles
- around the eyes ( "crow's feet")
- on lower eyelids
- around the lips
- on the chin.
The formation of such wrinkles results form an excessive muscle activity of a given facial area. Botox is a highly effective natural toxin acting by blocking the connections between nerve endings and muscles which are innervated by them. A small amount of BOTOX administered into the muscle causes it to loosen, resulting in smoothing the wrinkles.
The whole procedure takes only 10 to 15 minutes and consists in several small injections. The advantage of this method is low invasiveness and the ability to return to normal activity of the patient immediately after the surgery.
The first results are visible after 2-3 days and persist from 4 to 6 months. After this period, it is recommended to repeat the treatment in order to maintain the effect.

Filling the wrinkles - hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid occurs physiologically in our tissues, mainly in the skin. Thanks to its unique water-binding capacity it is responsible for maintaining proper hydration of the skin. Unfortunately, over the years the content of hyaluronic acid decreases which leads to the formation of wrinkles.
The treatment of filling the wrinkles consists in providing a new source of hyaluronic acid to the skin in order to restore satisfactory hydration of tissues.
Hyaluronic acid used in aesthetic medicine is obtained by biosynthesis, is not of animal origin, does not require skin tests, and acid molecules obtained by this method decompose quite naturally in the body. This method is completely safe and without side effects.
The preparation (in a gel form) is inserted by a thin needle under the skin in a line of a wrinkle or a furrow. After the injection, the hyaluronic acid binds water and increases the volume of the treated area which leads to a smoothing of the skin at this point.
Possible side effects are: redness and swelling at the place of injecting the material - these symptoms disappear within 72 hours.
Filling the wrinkles with hyaluronic acid is reversible. The effect is visible for approximately 9 - 12 months, after this time it gradually and naturally disappears. This period may be longer or shorter depending on:
- the age,
- type of the skin,
- lifestyle (smoking and exposing the skin to sun and UV radiation may shorten the duration of the action).
Contraindications:
- pregnancy, breastfeeding,
- diseases of autoimmune origin,
- susceptibility to form overgrowth scars,
- inflammation of the skin (herpes, acne).
